17.º Encontro Nacional da APPE
Nos próximo dias 31 de março e 1 de abril de 2023, a Faculdade de Psicologia da Universidade de Lisboa acolherá o 17.º Encontro da Associação Portuguesa de Psicologia Experimental.
Este encontro anual da APPE tem por objectivo pôr em contacto os investigadores em Portugal, ou com ligações ao nosso país, que desenvolvem trabalho em Psicologia Experimental para estudar a cognição e comportamento humano e animal. Neste encontro partilha-se conhecimento e experiência e discutem-se resultados entre pares. Este é um contexto ideal para se discutirem ideias, identificar novas linhas de investigação, alargar a rede de trabalho e/ou estabelecer novas parcerias.
São convidados a participar os alunos de pós-graduação (em particular doutorandos e investigadores júniores) das universidades portuguesas que trabalham nesta área. A eles dirigimos palavras de incentivo para apresentarem e discutirem as suas ideias e trabalho.

Why time and rhythm matter in speech/language comprehension
The influence of time and rhythm in music is clearly recognized but there is less clear evidence on their impact in speech and language research (see Kotz & Schwartze, 2010). This is surprising as time and rhythm (i) play a significant role in speech and language learning, (ii) can compensate developmental and acquired speech and language disorders, and (iii) further our understanding of subcortical contributions to linguistic and non-linguistic functions. More specifically, recent neuroimaging and clinical evidence has confirmed the contributions of classical motor control areas (cerebellum (CE), basal ganglia (BG), supplementary motor area (SMA)) in timing, rhythm, music, and speech perception (Chen et al., 2008; Grahn et al., 2007; Geiser et al., 2009; Kotz et al., 2009; Kotz & Schwartze, 2011). We propose that serial order and temporal precision are shared mechanisms in simple and complex motor behavior (e.g., Salinas, 2009), but also in higher order cognitive functions such as speech and language (Kotz & Schwartze, 2010; 2015; 2016). I will present behavioral and neuroimaging evidence on the role of timing and rhythm in speech/language comprehension, and the compensation thereof in clinical populations. This empirical work will be discussed within a cortico-subcortical framework for speech/language processing.

Exploring false memory effects conditioned by context
Previous studies with false memories (remembering events that did not happened) using lists of words employed mostly preexistent mental networks of associative and/or semantic connections between concepts in the construction of the lists to observe the effect. These studies provided relevant insight into the cognitive processes involved in this memory illusion and into the representational structures of the associative and semantic networks in question. However, studies have also shown that these networks of connections between concepts are malleable, being reorganized into different structures according to the different contexts and goals in which we may be involved. In this talk I will present studies that explored if and how the effect of false memories occurs for semantic networks reorganized into novel category structures and discuss the implications of these results for some of the main theories about false memories.

Formato dos trabalhos
Serão apresentados e discutidos projectos e resultados de investigação sob a forma de comunicações orais e posters, além de duas conferências plenárias e da conferência Prémio APPE. Os resumos para comunicações orais e posters devem ser propostos por um sócio da APPE (cf. Call for Papers), e a língua usada pode ser inglês ou português.
Comunicações
As comunicações orais terão uma duração de 15 minutos, seguidos de 5 minutos para discussão.
Posters
O poster não deve exceder 120 cm de altura e 90 cm de largura. O material para fixar os posters nos suportes será disponibilizado por colaboradores da Comissão Organizadora no próprio dia.

Jantar do encontro
O jantar do Encontro realizar-se-á no dia 31 de março, no Restaurante Pateo 51.
O preço do jantar é de 28 euros por pessoa. O menu inclui um prato de carne e um prato de peixe (ou vegetariano, se indicado).
Poderá proceder à inscrição no jantar aquando da inscrição no Encontro, até 14 de março.
